Summary

 

          The study and identification of insect specimens, which are smaller than 3.0 mm, require that they be positioned at different attitudes to permit a clear optimum visibility of certain key characters.  A substrate that has excellent surface qualities for manipulating small specimens is solidified rubber cream.  Rubber cream, unlike rubber cement, is applied to a microscope slide as a thick past, ca. 2.0 mm in depth, which can be furrowed with a stylus to form many surface angles.  No electrostatic charge is produced to disorient specimens.
